Women In! Civic Leadership Training Series - Session Details

May 6 – “Where do I start?” Assessing your leadership potential
Interested in potentially pursuing leadership positions in your community? Thinking about running for office, working on a campaign or advancing in your current community leadership role?  Learn more about what the options are, how to assess political opportunities, gauge your own leadership potential and build a support network for advancing your goals.

May 14 – What is power?
Understanding power – its sources, and how it is gained and lost – is essential for becoming a community leader. In this session, you will learn more about where power is concentrated in your community, and how you can begin to build your own source of power. In building your own source of power, we will focus on setting goals, developing your strategy, and choosing and implementing tactics.

May 21 – Immigrant women and women of color break-out session
Immigrant women and women of color are underrepresented in all forms of civic leadership in the Granite State. Learn more about the challenges and barriers immigrant women and women of color face in pursuing leadership roles. We will focus on accessing power and money, finding and engaging allies, and overcoming typecasting and stereotypes.

May 28 – Developing your vision and message
Developing and communicating your vision is essential for anyone looking to make change in their community. In this session, we will explore what it is that you care about, and how to engage others by speaking to common values. Learn more about how to effectively market yourself and your ideas, and how to best manage the media.

June 4 – Fundraising 101
Money and politics too often go hand-in-hand, especially when it comes to running a campaign. Raising money is vital, but it is also one of the most difficult things to do, especially for women. Learn more about the basics of raising money – whom to ask, how, and when, and how New Hampshire’s new campaign finance reform law can help you too. And don’t worry, we’ll also walk you through the paperwork you need to fill out with the state!

June 11 – Community engagement and civic participation
A civically educated and engaged community is the basis for getting elected. But how does one go about engaging constituents? And making sure they vote? This session will help you assess current voting trends in your communities, who isn’t voting and why, and how you can effectively mobilize friends and volunteers to help get out the vote.
